Sonam Hid in Indore After Murder
A new revelation shows that after the murder, Sonam did not go missing in Meghalaya but instead returned to Indore and hid in a flat in the Dewas Naka area for three days (May 25–27), after which she fled. She later surfaced in Ghazipur, Uttar Pradesh, where she surrendered at the Nandganj police station.
Police found that right after the murder, Sonam stayed in a rented flat in Indore. After her arrest, the police also arrested the four co-accused: Raj Kushwaha, Vishal Chauhan, Anand Kurmi, and Akash Rajput, from Indore and Uttar Pradesh. A 12-member Meghalaya police team took them to Shillong.
While the accused were being taken through the airport, a person slapped one of them in anger. All the accused were wearing masks, so it wasn’t clear who was slapped. A video of the incident has gone viral on social media.
Married on May 11, Body Found on June 2
Raja and Sonam got married on May 11 and went to Meghalaya for their honeymoon. May 23, they went missing from Nongriat village. Raja’s body was found in the forest on June 2. According to the autopsy, there were two sharp wounds on his head – one from the front and one from the back.

Murder Was a Planned Conspiracy
The investigation revealed that Sonam and Raj Kushwaha had planned the murder. Raj himself did not travel to Meghalaya to avoid suspicion, but sent his three associates who allegedly carried out the murder and returned.
A local tour guide testified that he saw three unfamiliar men with Raja and Sonam. When police showed him photographs, he identified one of them.
Raja’s parents said they couldn’t believe at first that Sonam could be involved, but now everything is clear. His emotional mother asked, “If Sonam loved someone else, why did she marry my son? Why kill him?”
On the other hand, Raj Kushwaha’s mother and sister claimed his innocence. His sister said that Raj and Sonam only shared a professional relationship. Raj called her “Didi” and she called him “Bhaiya.”
Evidence and Forensic Testing
Indore police have seized the clothes worn by Vishal Chauhan at the time of the murder. These will be sent for forensic testing to check for bloodstains.
Now, Sonam and the other four accused will be presented in court in Shillong, where police will seek custody for further investigation.
